How Amazon Elements Changes the Supplement Industry

By Zachary Litton | Supplement Entrepreneurship | 0 Comments | 13 December, 2017

Earlier in 2017, Amazon created their own line of supplements since they saw how much revenue is generated from their site of these products. It's called Amazon Elements and it is forcing all other supplement brands to step up!

Supplement Industry Delivers A Reality Check to Amazon

As per the words of Scott Steinford, founder of Trust Transparency Consulting, Amazon has known for a while about the modern consumer’s need for more product information. Today’s supplement buyers are more educated than before. It’s no surprise that Amazon Elements products are a direct result of Amazon’s self-actualization of how lucrative supplements are.

The health and wellness industry is thriving. It’s expected to garner over 275 billion dollars by 2024, and the Amazon Market Place has become an increasingly popular trading post for popular sellers. The Amazon platform, itself, is incredibly conducive to vitamin selling. Tools like Feedback Genius are being used to automatically ask for customer reviews, redefining the way brands use the Amazon selling portal to gain customer insight. Meanwhile, tools like AMZ Tracker are being used to track valuable keywords better than virtually any other tool available.

Make no mistake: External tools aren’t the cornerstone of Amazon’s surprisingly highly in-tune selling areas. Supplement providers can easily increase sales from Amazon’s high traffic channel—which draws in almost 184 million visitors per month. Amazon’s instant accessibility to a wide audience, too, is beneficial to supplement providers. Eventually, Amazon became wise to its own potential. Amazon heard the call for transparency and it answered in a highly unique way.

The Amazon Elements Lineup

First of all acsess to these products are only possible with an prime membership. Amazon Elements has a full line up of over 10 different supplements.  They feature products like: a calcium complex vitamin, turmeric root extract, vitamin D and vitamin K2. They also feature products like baby wipes.

The Amazon Elements QR bar code scheme, in particular, is evidence of our evolving supplement world—one contingent on visibility. Because each product’s CoA is accessible via these bar codes, consumers can achieve vital product information within seconds, including a supplement’s batch number, production date and testing location.

Amazon and the Market at Large

Private label products—and individually-sold brands, like Amazon Elements, have incredible traction with online vitamin shoppers, sweeping up 20 percent of sales. Meanwhile, e commerce accounts for 15 percent of all dollars spent on vitamins. Of these dollars, Amazon claims roughly 35 percent.

Amazon's supplements surpass their competitors—like GNC—due to its product expansion to an already-active user-base. They can bring the industry’s margins down, if they want to. Element's sales might cannibalize pre-existing brands sold to online customers.
